September 13, 2018

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SUBMISSION PERIOD FOR 2019 IS CURRENTLY CLOSED. PLEASE CHECK BACK IN EARLY DECEMBER FOR THE 2020 APPLICATION PERIOD.

This year commemorates the centenary year of the most prolific leader or our time - Nelson Mandela. To honor his legacy and the worldwide initiative of #Mandela100 , RedFlight Innovation, Kweku and Ndaba Mandela's Africa Rising and Creative Visions/Rock Your World have come together to launch an academic and cultural fellowship for Eastern Cape students, commencing in 2019.

RedFlight, who has worked for Ndaba Mandela and Africa Rising in 2017 on a STEAM and entrepreneurship workshop, is aiming to amplify the centenary year of Nelson Mandela and his passionate purpose by creating this fellowship and social impact initiative.

As an Ambassador of Africa Rising, the scholar will collaborate with Creative Visions and Rock Your World, a non-profit organization dedicated to social activism, to activate an advocacy program that helps solve human-rights struggles using media and the arts. The fellowship - which will be a two week cultural immersion in Los Angeles, California, will be open to junior and senior level learners who exhibit academic excellence and an ongoing commitment to volunteering in the community on projects that espouse the leadership attributes of Madiba. These projects can be civic engagement, social justice or simply leading projects that serve the greater good of the Eastern Cape and that actively interpret Madiba's legacy of working to meet the needs of the South African community.

"We are truly honored to be a part of this project with long-time collaborators Creative Visions. As my grandfather said - Each of us as citizens, has a role to play in creating a better world for our children. Africa Rising is proud to support this fellowship.”

Kweku Mandela

Co-Founder, Africa Rising
